The man who plunged to his death at the A2 in Thanington has been identified as Robert Mobey.

Mr Mobey, who has also used the surname Brazil, died last Thursday when he fell from the bridge which spans the A2 between Thanington and Wincheap.

As he fell he struck a car travelling towards London. The driver of the car was not injured.

The 45-year-old, whose pregnant daughter was at the scene shortly after the incident, lived in nearby Godwin Road on the Thanington estate.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Police closed the road at 2pm and diverted traffic along the A28 and through Canterbury.

Police say the death is not suspicious and floral tributes have been left at the scene.

An inquest has been opened and adjourned. It will be concluded later in the year.
