Drugs firm Aesica is creating up to 100 jobs on the Isle of Sheppey.

Disappointment over the axing of plans by wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to create 2,000 jobs in Sheerness has been partly eased by the latest development.

Aesica is creating the jobs at its Queenborough plant over the next three years as the site is prepared for major expansion. A phased recruitment drive will begin shortly.

Aesica aims to recruit talented students and candidates with a manufacturing background who are keen to pursue a career or apprenticeship in the pharmaceutical industry. It promises more details at an open day on July 5.

The latest development follows the opening last year of a £3m Potent Manufacturing Facility.

Simon Clough, managing director of Aesica Formulated Products, said: “This is an exciting time for Aesica and the local community. Not only are we growing as a business, we’re also creating up to 100 new jobs which is a fantastic boost for the region’s economy.

“As a long-standing local employer with plans to grow globally, we’re also looking to bring young apprentices on board, which we believe will not only strengthen the business but also reaffirm our commitment to youth employment in the Isle of Sheppey and Kent.”

Gordon Henderson MP said: “I am delighted to hear that Aesica is investing yet further in its Queenborough facility and creating much-needed new jobs in the process. This is a major boost for the area and backs up the company’s commitment to the facility.”
