1) Beating the booze could help you lose weight

When you have a drink it's not just the units you're racking up. Booze is full of sugar and as a result when you find yourself heading off to the pub, you may have to hit the gym later to work it off. Why not jump on the scales to see if you've lost any weight.

2) Count the extra money you've got in your wallet

Just think of all those pennies you're saving while you're not spending it on drink. You could add it to your holiday fund or put it in a rainy day fund.

3) Share your experience with someone

You could start a blog, write a diary or talk to a friend about how you've been getting on with staying sober for a whole month. If you find you're struggling to kick the drink then speaking with someone or putting your thoughts down in writing can often focus the mind and make you concentrate on your goal.

4) Consider a longer spell

If everything's going well with your hiatus why not consider extending it? Not only could you benefit from all the positive points like losing a bit more weight or saving money but imagine what else you could do if you manage to kick the drink for good!

5) Are you sleeping better?

Around two weeks in, you could find that you fall into a luxurious slumber and wake up feeling properly refreshed. It’s because booze prevents us from deep-diving into some good quality sleep.
