Ashley 'lived life to the full'

by chief reporter Angela Cole

A 22-year-old killed after falling onto a live railway line as he walked home with friends lived life to the full, his mother has said.

Ashley Godmon was walking with three friends along the line from Snodland when the tragedy happened last Friday.

The group had missed the last train home by two minutes. At just before 11pm, Ashley tripped and fell on the live line. He was killed instantly.

Dozens of flower tributes have been laid at Snodland level crossing, near the spot where the accident happened.

His mother, Tania Godmon, from Snodland, said: “He lived life to the full. He enjoyed his mates’ company and he made the most of his life. He was just a typical boy, always coming in and saying “I’m starving mum,” and raiding my cupboards.”

Ashley, who attended Lunsford Park primary and Aylesford School, had recently moved to East Malling to live with his grandmother. He had been a member of Larkfield FC for four years and was a keen Arsenal fan.

The incident is being investigated by British Transport Police, who have confirmed they are not treating the death as suspicious.
