Two builders have been treated for injuries following a fire on a construction site in West Kent College, Tonbridge.

Fire crews say one man in his 20s was treated by a doctor and ambulance staff for "flash burns" at the scene earlier today, before being flown to a specialist burns unit by air ambulance.

Another man in his 20s was treated for shock and smoke inhalation, and given oxygen therapy by firefighters, before being taken to a nearby hospital.

Two crews from Tonbridge attended after being called to the fire in Brook Street, Tonbridge, at 12.20pm.

Tonbridge watch manager Derek Patey said the blaze was out by the time crews arrived but that the building was "heavily smoke-logged."

A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.

The cause of the fire - which broke out in the electrical intake of a building "under development" - is not yet known.
