Firefighters were called to the coastbound carriageway between the Strood and Chatham turn-offs (junctions two and three) at about 11pm Monday.

A spokesman for Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: "There were two people in the car and both had managed to get out of the car after the driver pulled over.

"We suspect the fire was started by an electrical fault in the dashboard. It has been destroyed by the flames."
