Cell fires at Island prisons

There were fires at two of the Island’s prisons in one night.

The first one was a cell fire at Swaleside at 6.40pm yesterday (Thursday).

Crews from Eastchurch and Sheerness attended and managed to put it out within half an hour.

Later there was another fire in a cell at Elmley.

Fire-fighters from Eastchurch and Sheerness attended at 8.30pm.

No-one was injured in either of the incidents.
