The neighbourhood task team stopped the van in Flaxpond Road, after tip-offs from neighbours there.

It total 16,430 cigarettes and more than 10 kilos of hand-rolling tobacco were said to have been seized - worth an estimated street value of £4,500.

CI John Frayne said: "This search and seizure is a good example of how the Neighbourhood Task Team responds to the community concerns in a proactive manner, and as a result improves public confidence in Kent police."

No arrests have been made, but the case has now been passed on to HM Revenue and Customs.
