A Conservative councillor and school teacher has apologised for making a racist comment on the social networking website Facebook.

Bob Frost, who represents north Deal on Dover District Council and is also a member of Deal Town Council, has been suspended from the Conservative Party while the group carries out an investigation into the comments.

The remarks, made in the wake of the riots in London two weeks ago, referred to 'jungle bunnies.'

Mr Frost, who teaches maths at Sir Roger Manwood's school in Sandwich, has now deleted them from Facebook.

He said today: "What I said was wrong and I apologise unreservedly.

"I am mortified by the offence that I have caused and have deleted these comments.

"I am very sorry."

Sue Chandler, deputy leader of the Conservative-run council, said: "There is no place in our society for this kind of language."

She added: "We have therefore suspended Councillor Frost from the Conservative Group pending investigation."

Wayne Elliott, a Conservative Deal town councillor and former town mayor, said: "We are not having comments like this in our party. Bob has been very foolish."
