Police are appealing for witnesses after a cyclist was shot with an airgun.

The 39-year-old man was riding along Military Road, Appledore, when a white van travelling towards him slowed down.

The driver pointed what is believed to be an air pistol at him and fired a pellet which caused a minor cut to the man’s arm and left him shaken.

PC Justin Farrow, who is investigating the incident, said: "I would like to hear from anyone who has been involved in a similar incident, or who may have been in the area at the time.

"This could have been much worse, had the pellet hit the cyclist in the eye."

The van is described as a white Vauxhall Astravan, with alloy multi-spoke wheels and possibly tinted glass windows.

The driver was male, with distinctive light coloured hair.

The incident happened at 5.15 pm on Thursday, June 28, about a mile and a half from Appledore, as the cyclist was riding towards Rye.

Anyone with information should contact PC Farrow on 101 quoting ref ZY/17759/12 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
