A dog walker was booted in the head after being tackled to the ground by a middle-aged man in an apparently random attack.

The victim, in his 40s, was approached from behind in an unprovoked assault at Riverside Country Park, in Gillingham.

He was pushed to the ground by his attacker, who kicked him before fleeing.

Nothing was stolen and the victim suffered only minor injuries.

The attacker is described as between 48 and 52-years-old, white with thin, grey hair and was wearing a brown top.

It is thought he might have been with a woman walking two greyhounds, one black and white and the other red/brown and white. The offender left in a black 4x4 vehicle.

In the struggle, the victim might have caused an injury to the offender's eye that could have been visible several days after the assault.

Police have only just released details of the attack, at about 8.50pm on Friday, April 8.

PC Peter Leeming said: "It is likely that there were other dog walkers in the area at the time who may have witnessed the assault take place or who have other information, which would assist us with our enquiries."

Anyone with information is asked to phone police on 01622 690690 or CrimeStoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
