EastEnders star heads for Medway

The star of this year’s pantomime at the Central Theatre has been revealed.

EastEnders actor Joe Swash will be swapping Walford for Chatham to appear in Cinderella.

Joe will play Buttons in the show, a role perfectly suited to the mischievous and loveable persona of his screen character Mickey Miller.

Joe first appeared in the soap in the spring of 2003 and became a regular on our screens when the Miller family moved to Walford in 2004.

His younger sister, Shana Swash, who was in pantomime in Maidstone two years ago, played his on-screen sister Demi until July 2006.

In 2005, Joe had to take time off from the soap when he was struck down by meningitis.

But after a short spell in hospital the actor made a full recovery.

In February this year, EastEnders bosses announced Mickey and his dad Keith Miller would be axed from the soap because of a shortage of story lines for the family.

The pair will be leaving Albert Square as part of a dramatic plot this summer.

Cinderella is being staged by Evolution Productions, the team behind previous hit pantomimes Snow White and Peter Pan.

Producer Paul Hendy said: “We are absolutely thrilled we have Joe Swash in this year’s production.

“He is the perfect Buttons, a real cheeky chappie with a great sense of humour and a touch of pathos. I know the people of Chatham are going to absolutely love him.”
