Eight people fled their homes early this morning after fire erupted in their building.

The blaze broke out in a vacant basement flat in Trinity Gardens, Folkestone, at around 4am.

The building - a large house divided into flats - was evacuated when a fire alarm went off.

Fire crews stopped the flames spreading further than the hallway, where the blaze started.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
