A female MP and football coach has waded into the Sky Sports sexism row.

FA-qualified Tracey Crouch, who represents Chatham and Aylesford, branded comments by two football presenters "stupid and ignorant".

She spoke out after commentators Andy Gray and Richard Key made critical comments about female assistant referee Sian Massey.

The pair have been disciplined after being recorded off-air saying women "probably don't know the offside rule" in Saturday's match between Liverpool and Wolves.

They will now not be commentating on tonight's Premier League match between Chelsea and Bolton.

Miss Crouch, who manages an under 13s girls' team, said: "Their comments were stupid and ignorant.

"If they spent less time in their glass commentary box they would see that there has been a revolution in the women and girls game of football, with thousands of people playing or officiating matches up and down the country every weekend.

"I hope that their views, which I genuinely believe reflect a minority opinion, don't deter women and girls getting involved in the game and they should stop hiding behind the Sky network and come out and personally apologise to Sian Massey for what they said."
