Firefighters are still at the scene of a woodland fire that broke out in Herne Bay on Tuesday afternoon.

At its height around 36 firefighters were sent to New Road, Herne Common to tackle the three hectares of grass, undergrowth and trees that had caught alight.

A total of six engines, two from Herne Bay, and one from Canterbury, Whitstable, Sturry and Faversham were called to help to put out the flames at 2.30pm.

Operations have now been scaled back and four engines are dealing with the smouldering area, where small sections are still on fire.
