Fire destroys roof of former hospital in Eastry

Police and fire officers are investigating the cause of a blaze that destroyed the roof of a former hospital building in east Kent early this morning.

The alarm was raised at just after 3am when flames were seen coming from the roof of the two-storey building in Mill Lane, Eastry.

Fire crews from Eastry, Sandwich, Deal and Whitfield were called to the scene and more firefighters also attended to help tackle the blaze.

The fire was brought under control at just before 7am, but the roof was destroyed and there was water and smoke damage to the ground and first floors.
