Firefighters help trapped pensioner get to hospital

An elderly woman who needed to get to hospital was helped by firefighters after she became trapped in her home.

A crew from Strood Fire Station was called out by paramedics who needed their assistance getting the woman out of her home and into an ambulance.

They were called just after 8pm, on Wednesday, to a home in Brompton Lane, Strood.

The firefighters were called out because paramedics could not get the stretchered woman down the stairs.

An upper-floor window was removed so she could be carried by firefighters and ambulance crews through it.

She was taken to Medway Maritime Hospital for treatment.
