Firefighters tackle house blaze

FIRE crews from across East Kent are tackling a huge blaze in a house in Arthur Road at Cliftonville, near Margate.

Onlookers are standing as close as they can, watching flames licking from most of the windows of the three-storey Victorian property in the heart of the former tourist district off the main Northdown Road shopping centre.

Six fire engines are on site with an ambulance and a paramedic unit nearby as firefighters check for casualties. It is not yet known if the building is occupied.

Firemen can be seem jumping in and out of the windows doing everything they can to bring the blaze under control.

An onlooker said he heard the first fire engine arrive at around 3pm.
