Firefighters tackle house blaze

Firefighters tackled a house blaze which broke out around 1am today.

The fire was in a converted barn at Sheldwich.

Two engines were sent from Faversham, a third from Canterbury and a fourth from Sittingbourne.

The blaze started in the roof space of Westwood Court, a private home.

Firemen wore breathing apparatus and used a platform ladder to extinguish fire in the hot spots.

A water shuttle was used to provide more water, Seaboard attended to turn off the power to the house and a building inspector was asked to attend.

One fire engine was still at the scene at 10am to damp down but an official assessment of the damage has not yet been released.
