Ukip leader Henry Bolton faces Twitter storm from former supporter Susie Govett over relationship with model

A Kent councillor who acted as a campaign aide to Ukip leader Henry Bolton has taken him to task over his split with his wife to start a relationship with a model in her twenties.

Shepway councillor Susie Govett posted a series of increasingly disparaging comments on Twitter after the news broke and dropped a hint that she could be considering leaving the party.

Meanwhile, Jo Marney, the Maidstone model who has become Mr Bolton’s partner, is under fire after reportedly making controversial comments about residents in Grenfell Tower on her Facebook page.

Susie Govett, who represents New Romney on Shepway council, was a key aide to Mr Bolton during the party’s leadership campaign, acting as his press officer as she travelled with him to various hustings meetings and rallies as he defied the odds to win.

She was also Mr Bolton's campaign manager when he stood in the Kent crime commissioner election.

But her tweets leave little room for doubt over her disenchantment about his behaviour and have become increasingly critical.

In one, she says: "There's no fool like an old fool" and adds, "expect a statement from me tomorrow".

In another tweet, which links to a story about Mr Bolton's family's disapproval, she says: "When even your mum calls you out in public, surely it's time to listen?"

She also posted a picture of the cover of a Horrid Henry children's book and posted a link to the website of campaign group Conservative Woman, which describes itself as "a counter-cultural offensive against the forces of Leftism, feminism and modernism".

When contacted by KentOnline, she said her only comment was: "There's no fool like an old fool."

Mr Bolton, who is based in Folkestone, said his new relationship was not a distraction from his leadership role.

He told members in a message that he was entitled to a private life but acknowledged that there would be interest in his new relationship.
