Police closed a Dartford road for four hours during a stand-off with a man who had barricaded himself in a shed.

The 29-year-old - who was holed up in the garden of a property in Littlebrook Manor Way - had threatened to harm himself, police say.

Officers closed the road between its junctions with Henderson Drive and Tennyson Road when they arrived at about 5.30am Monday.

A police spokesman said the man had been sought on Sunday night on suspicion of assault.

He was finally removed from the shed at 9.30am. Police arrested him after an assessment by paramedics, which found him unharmed.

Critical incident commander, Ch Insp Martin Cunningham, said: "At no stage was there any risk to the public. Our main concern was for the individual and his welfare."

During the incident Fastrack buses were diverted along Henderson Drive. The road was re-opened at about 9.45am.
