All aboardKent’s railways for this year’s Santa Specials, with a ho ho ho and a grotto of fun

On arrival at Tenterden Town Station, families will be greeted with the sounds of the pipe organ and free rides on the Victorian carousel. After boarding, children will be able to meet Father Christmas during an hour-long return journey toWittersham Road. Pixies will pop up with sacks full of presents and every child will get an age-appropriate gift to take home and put under the tree. After the train ride, the fun continues on the miniature railway, where travellers will be taken to meet the beautiful Snow Queen. There will also be 1950s penny slot machines.

Santa Specials run on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, 10 and 11, 17 and 18 and from Thursday, December 22 to Christmas Eve. Opening weekend standard tickets £13, first class £16, normal standard tickets £16.50, first class £20, Christmas Eve standard £17.50, first class £21. Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch Railway

The world’s smallest public railway welcomes Santa aboard for another year, with families boarding at Hythe station on a return trip to New Romney. There they will get admission to the toy and model railway exhibition and have a chat with Father Christmas, who will check whether or not they have made the good list. The Santa Specials run on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, 10 and 11, 17 and 18 and from Tuesday, December 20 to Christmas Eve. Trains leave at 9.30am, 10.50am, 12.10pm, 1.30pm, 2.50pm and 4.10pm. Fares are £16 but for an extra £30 per adult and £25 per child, families can have lunch at the Captain Howey Hotel in New Romney. After boarding at Tunbridge Wells West station, travellers are taken on a round trip through the winter Wealden countryside to Groombridge station. Children will meet Father Christmas in his magical grotto and receive a gift. Meanwhile, mum and dad can enjoy mince pies and seasonal drinks.

Santa Specials run on Saturday and Sunday, December 3 and 4, 10 and 11, 17 and 18 and from Wednesday, December 21 to Friday, December 23. Santa will wait for visitors in his grotto at Eythorne station, which can be reached after boarding at Shepherdswell, nearDover. Every child who takes the journey to visit him will get a present. Parents are free to take pictures and will also get a mince pie and mulled wine.
