Gillingham boss Martin Allen will be looking to balance his squad out ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Permanent deals for contracted players must be completed by 11pm on Thursday night.

Allen has already off-loaded several players in a bid to reduce the wage bill and more may follow.

He said: “There are other offers on the table for a couple of our other players but now at the moment we only have 18 senior players and five of them are centre forwards.

“The balance of our squad isn’t quite right. I have had a chat with Mr Scally and we will see what we can do with regards to strengthening.”

Allen will recall Bradley Dack back from his loan spell at Braintree when that ends at the weekend.

One of those almost certain to leave is striker Ben Strevens, who Allen made available for transfer at the start of the month.

“We have to make those adjustments pretty quick and if we get injuries we are playing kids,” said Allen.
