Gillingham midfielder Lewis Montrose is set to join an unnamed club on loan for the rest of the season.

Montrose has produced a number of solid performances in a holding midfield role this season but boss Martin Allen is ready to let him out on loan after capturing Steven Gregory at the start of the January transfer window.

He said: "He has had a major part in our season but I felt we have had too many players on the periphery of the squad and it is difficult to keep everyone happy."

Montrose joined the Gills from Wycombe at the start of last season and has made a total of 71 appearances for the club, scoring six goals.
