Martin Allen is ready to spend again in January after chairman Paul Scally offered to further strengthen the squad.

The Gills boss is keen to keep on building as the club push for promotion from League 2 this season and will be able to bring in new players when the transfer window opens in the new year.

It was welcome news for Allen, who said: "I said all along we have to keep improving and need to keep getting better.

"We are going to strengthen in January and Mr Scally has promised me. We have got that commitment."

And the Gills chairman will be treating the players and their partners to a boat trip on the Thames after the home game against Fleetwood tomorrow (Saturday) as a Christmas treat.

"I have never in all my years in football had that happen," said Allen.

"We all owe Mr Scally an awful lot and he is going to splash the cash again in January. All the supporters should be buzzing."
