Leading scorer Danny Kedwell is set to return for Saturday’s FA Cup trip to Preston.

The 11-goal hitman was left out of the squad for the trip to Accrington on Saturday – although he still travelled with the party – after suffering a groin problem in training.

Gills boss Martin Allen said: "He had a sore groin on Thursday afternoon; people have to be fully fit.

"He came up here with us as part of our team because he’s integral to what we do and the spirit of our group.

"He felt better (on Saturday) morning and at a push and a shove I suppose he could have played, but we don’t need to do that because we have other good players as well."

The first team players were given time off on Monday and Tuesday before returning to training on Wednesday ahead of the trip to Deepdale.

"We’ll give them a break for a few days and hopefully get Kedwell fit again ready for next week," Allen added.

The Gills boss could also recall Joe Martin, after the defender played 45 minutes of Tuesday's development game against AFC Wimbledon. He has been out with a broken hand but played with a cast.

Bradley Dack also featured in the game, which finished 1-1, as he continues to build up his fitness following injury.
