Gillingham's League 2 match against Northampton Town this Saturday has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Heavy rain over the festive period has forced Gillingham's hand and with no improvement in the forecast, a decision was made on Friday to prevent Northampton from travelling.

It is the second time in a week that the Gills have had a match postponed after last Saturday's trip to York was also called off. In between, the Gills lost 1-0 at home to Barnet on Boxing Day.

It means Gillingham's place at the top of League 2 is also in danger. They will not be top for the first time since the start of September if Port Vale win their scheduled match away to Dagenham this Saturday.
