Kent's gritters out for first time in weeks to cope with expected cold snap

Kent’s main roads are set to be gritted for the first time in weeks to cope with a predicted overnight cold snap.

Council contractors will be out on the county’s primary routes in the early hours of tomorrow, with road surface temperatures expected to dip below freezing.

Despite the arrival of spring and milder temperatures, morning frosts are also predicted across some areas of Kent.

The county’s main roads have not been gritted since March 4, but Kent Gritting has confirmed precautions will be taken tonight.

It tweeted this afternoon: “A cold night with road surface temperatures falling below freezing so we will be treating primary routes from 3am.”

Kent’s 60 gritters are on standby until mid-April.
