The Met Office issues yellow warning of rain to come for Kent

The heatwave has come to a watery end today as heavy rain and thunderstorms hit Kent.

The Met Office has told us to be careful as a band of thundery showers sweep in, by issuing a yellow "be aware" warning.

It's expected to hit us before 1pm, and there is the possibility for homes to be flooded in some circumstances.

Some areas have already experienced thunder and lightning, with bursts of heavy rain.

The yellow classification warns people "severe weather is possible over the next few days and could affect you.

"Yellow means that you should plan ahead thinking about possible travel delays, or the disruption of your day to day activities," according to The Met Office

A spokesman for the forecast service said: "Some places will miss these, but where they do occur there is potential for heavy downpours producing sudden localised flooding of homes and businesses and disruption to power supplies from lightning strikes."
