Firefighters were left red-faced when their engine overturned into a field this morning.

The crew members were lucky to escape injury in the crash, at about 9.15am.

They were driving the fire engine along Kennelling Road - a narrow country lane at Stalisfield between Faversham and Charing - when it rolled into a farmer's field.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash and the engine was not on its way to a fire at the time.

Kent Police were called at 9.30am and officers went to assist while the fire engine was recovered.

Fire crew mananger Jim Sanderson said: "The crews were not responding to an incident at the time and no other vehicles were involved.

"No one was hurt and the extent of any damage is not yet known."

He added that Kent Fire and Rescue Service would be investigating the incident.
