Housing development must be 'more Kentish'

DEVELOPERS hoping to build 137 homes on an old factory site in the Tovil area of Maidstone have been told to make their plan "more Kentish" before it will be approved.

At a Maidstone council planning meeting, Prowting Homes were asked by councillors to consider using weather-boarding on the homes and redesigning the site to have more open space.

The planning application for the Duncan Web Offset Works site, in Tovil's Farleigh Hill, was deferred to allow the developers to take some of the council's suggestions on board.

Other comments included asking the developers to consider building a terrace of houses to act as a barrier between the busy Farleigh Hill road and the rest of the site.

The plans submitted to the council showed 137 homes - ranging between one and four bedrooms - arranged in small squares with green verges. The only access to the estate would be from Farleigh Hill.
