Huge jams as lorry and car collide

BIG traffic tail-backs built up this afternoon after a collision between a car and a lorry on one of the county's busiest roads.

The accident happened at about 2.10pm in Maidstone Road, Chatham, near the Tiger Moth pub and the roundabout at the entrance to the Rochester Airport retail park.

Traffic was stacked up in all directions and queues stretched back to the Bridgewood roundabout and Blue Bell Hill and to the approaches to Chatham town centre.

The delays were made worse because the axle on the lorry was broken in the crash, making it more difficult for the vehicle to be recovered. Nobody was injured.
