Hundreds bid farewell to bishop Nazir-Ali

Hundreds of people descended on Rochester Cathederal on Saturday afternoon to say farewell to the Bishop of Rochester.

The Right Reverend Michael Nazir-Ali announced his retirement earlier this year.

Bishop Nazir-Ali became the first non-white diocesan bishop in the Church of England when he was appointed in 1994.

Since he was appointed 15 years ago he's caused some controversy - last year he received death threats for saying in a Sunday paper that Islamic extremists were creating 'no go areas' for non-Muslims in Britain.

It is thought around 700 people attended the service.
