Leading scorer Danny Kedwell could be back for the Gills sooner than expected.

The 12-goal striker (pictured) has been missing since picking up a hamstring injury during the warm-down routine after the game against Wycombe Wanderers at the start of the month.

He was initially expected to be out for at least a month but boss Martin Allen could have him back available soon.

"Danny Kedwell has worked tremendously hard," said the Gills boss.

"He was back at the ground working while we were in Yorkshire, doing three sessions a day and it looks like he is going to be back sooner rather than later, which is great news."

Kedwell has played 30 games this season and his last goal was against title-rivals Port Vale in mid-January.

His return will be welcomed by Allen, who said: "Danny has an influence on the squad, he is a great character to have about and we do miss him around our squad, training and travelling and in general."

Also missing for the Gills is midfielder Charlie Allen – out with a broken hand. But he too could be making a quick return.

"It is too uncomfortable for him to play at the moment but he will be back sooner than the five weeks we first thought," revealed the Gills boss.
