Constance Briscoe was questioned by officers from Kent Police

A high-profile judge has been arrested and questioned by Kent Police.

Constance Briscoe - who has previously appeared as a barrister at Canterbury Crown Court - was held by officers from the force at her home on Saturday.

The 55-year-old has now been released on police bail pending a police investigation.

Ms Briscoe is understood to have been suspended by the judiciary pending the outcome.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "A 55-year-old woman was arrested in Clapham, south London, on Saturday, October 6.

"She was interviewed by officers and bailed pending further investigation."

The details of Ms Briscoe's alleged crime cannot be revealed for legal reasons.
