Kent cueman Barry Hawkins is drawn to face Stephen Maguire in the first round of the 2011 World Snooker Championship

World Snooker Championship first round qualifier Barry Hawkins has been handed a draw against Stephen Maguire.

The world number seven, who comes from Glasgow, has four ranking tournament victories to his name.

Hawkins (pictured), who qualified for the event for the sixth successive year, is aiming to make it past the opening round for the first time.

Last year he came unstuck against world number 1 John Higgins, losing 10-6 at the Crucible Theatre.

Hawkins, from Ditton, currently sits at number 27 in the latest world rankings and returns to the famous Sheffield venue after becoming one of 16 qualifiers for the event last week.

He progressed through those qualifiers with a 10-5 win over Anthony Hamilton. The 16 qualifers are drawn against the top 16 in the world.

The championships begin on April 16.
