Kent's courts: Who has been in front of magistrates lately?

A violent thug, a bicycle thief and a workplace fraudster have made it onto the naughty list after appearing at Kent's magistrates courts.

Here are the latest batch of criminals to face justice.

Woman jailed for fraud

Victoria Tebbs, of Parrock Street, Gravesend, attempted to return goods that she had not purchased to a pharmacy in Gravesend, intending to make a gain of £33.34.

On another occasion she attempted to return goods she had not purchased to two stores in Gravesend, intending to make a total gain of £62.

Magistrates sentenced the 44-year-old to 180 days in prison and ordered her to pay compensation totalling £95.

She must also pay a victim services surcharge of £115 and costs of £85.

Medway man banned from driving

Ross Aron Bourn, of Baden Road, Gillingham, drove on Will Adams Roundabout, Gillingham, whilst disqualified from driving, without third party insurance, and with 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates banned the 34-year-old from driving for 36 months and ordered him to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a victim services surcharge of £85.

Thief avoids jail

Michael James Thornton, of Ryde Close, Chatham, stole £74.97 worth of cosmetics from a shop in Gillingham.

He also stole goods to the value of £47.10 from a supermarket in Hoo and £11.99 worth of products from a pharmacy in Main Road, Hoo, on two separate occasions.

Magistrates handed the 27-year-old a 120 day suspended sentence and ordered him to pay £74 in compensation.

He must also do 80 hours of unpaid work, pay costs of £85 and a victim services surcharge of £115.

Drink driver banned from driving

David Edward Odonovan, of Stanhope Road, Rochester, drove on Strood High Streetwith 102 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates disqualified the 44-year-old from driving for 28 months and ordered him to carry out 80 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay costs of £85 and a victim services surcharge of £85.

Suspended sentence for beater

Nana Otenadu Asamoah, of Meadow Bank Road, Chatham, beat a man up in the town.

He failed without reasonable cause to surrender to custody at Sevenoaks Magistrates’ Court.

Magistrates handed the 41-year-old a 90 day suspended sentence and ordered him to pay £204 in compensation.

He must also pay a £50 fine.

Bike thief sentenced

Frank Francis Smith, of Chilmington Green, Ashford, stole a bicycle to the value of £450 in Ashford.

He also stole another bicycle, to the value of £400 in Ashford, and another bicycle, to the value of £200, in Ashford, on separate occasions.

Magistrates handed the 48-year-old a three month suspended sentence and ordered him to pay compensation totalling £1,062.

Tenterden drink-driver more than twice over limit

John Michael Briggs, of Henley Fields, Tenterden, drove on Ashford Road (A28), St Michaels, with 168 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes.

Magistrates disqualified the 40-year-old from driving for 18 months and fined him £850.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim services surcharge of £85.

Man sentenced after beating man and woman

Remzi Ali, of Franklyn Road, Canterbury, assaulted a man and a woman in Canterbury by beating them.

Magistrates handed the 32-year-old a four month suspended sentence and ordered him to carry out 250 hours of unpaid work.

He must also pay £1,000 in compensation.

Driver banned for being over alcohol limit

Francis Mcguirk, of Waldershare Avenue, Sandwich, drove on Sandwich Road, Dover with 102 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Magistrates disqualified the 43-year-old from driving for 24 months and fined him £1,500.

He was also ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim services surcharge of £150.

Woman handed suspended sentence

Denise Ockwell, of Firmin Avenue, Maidstone, paid more than £6,000 of company money into her own account.

Magistrates handed the 58-year-old a 180 day suspended sentence and ordered her to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work.

She must also pay £5,421 in compensation and £85 in costs.

Man assaulted two people

Graham Conkie, of Peel Street, Maidstone, assaulted two people in Maidstone.

Magistrates ordered the 54-year-old to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and pay £50 in compensation.

He must also pay costs of £620 and a victim services surcharge of £85.
