Leading figure in Momentum has had her suspension from Labour lifted after inquiry

A senior Labour activist from Thanet has had her suspension from the party lifted.

Jackie Walker, from Broadstairs, was suspended from the party over allegedly anti-Semitic comments on Facebook.

She is a leading figure in Momentum, the campaign group that supports Jeremy Corbyn.

She was suspended after writing about "the African holocaust" and Jews as "chief financiers of the slave trade".

She said the past few weeks had been "a living nightmare".

Ms Walker said: "I am glad this investigation has fully cleared me of any wrongdoing. I am not a racist, but I robustly defend my right and the right of others to speak openly and frankly about matters of grave political and historical importance."

In a blog posting following her re-instatement, she said:

“As for myself, I will not be silenced. After all, I’m not just campaigning for me. I will continue to speak against the present process, against the particularity of its attack upon the left. I will continue to speak in defence of all minorities, including Jewish people, wherever I can. I will fight for the ideals of free speech, for the validity of anti-Zionism as a political perspective– ideals which have been a fundamental part of my commitment to the labour movement.”

A spokesman for the Labour party said: “Following the outcome of an investigation, Jacqueline Walker is no longer suspended and remains a member of the party."

Ms Walker, who lives in Broadstairs, has become a key figure in Momentum and is vice chairman of the group’s national steering committee.
