D-Day veterans awarded the Legion D'Honneur

Three Kent WWII veterans have been presented with France's highest honour today ahead of the 72nd anniversary of D-Day.

They were awarded the Légion d'honneur during a ceremony at the French Ambassador's Residence in London.

They are Harold Bradley, 92, a gunner in the Royal Artillery; Leonard Perry, 92, a stoker 1st Class in the Royal Navy and Frank Turner, 93, from Westerham, a warrant officer in the Royal Air Force.

The D-Day landings on June 6 1944 were part of the Allied invasion of Normandy in Operation Overlord during World War II.

It was the largest seaborne invasion in history, and began the liberation of German-occupied northwest Europe from Nazi control.
