A handwritten letter from Winston Churchill was among rare antiques stolen from a car in Faversham.

The crime happened at Oare Creek at some point between 11pm and 7am on May 30 and 31.

The car was parked on the victim’s drive.

Among the items stolen were an old wooden suitcase with stencilled initials WRB on the lid, a handwritten letter from Winston Churchill dated December 25, 1951 and a first edition of a book called Forward Arsenal by Bernard Joy, published in 1952.

Police believe that the items may be sold on at a boot fair or to antique dealers.
