Lewis Montrose is making a positive impact on Gillingham boss Martin Allen.

Montrose, pictured, took over defensive midfield duties for Saturday's win over Morecambe and excelled, taking home the man-of-the-match champagne after also netting his first league goal of the season.

"He is a great lad and he works so hard on the training ground to make himself a better player," said Allen.

"Montrose just tries his best, he works so hard and he loves playing football, he loves training and he is the type of person we want involved.

I was delighted when he scored because he is a great person to have at our club.

"I never normally pick out individuals but he played really well and to score again, from a holding position, that defensive midfield player, which we do need with the attacking full-backs we do have. It is terrific."
