Lottie in hole lot of trouble

By Hayley Robinson

Curiosity got a small dog in a spot of bother.

Lottie, a three-year-old Bedlington Terrier, had to be freed by firefighters after she squeezed her head through a decorative wall just before 8am last Thursday.

Owner Maralyn Fisher, known as Doll, noticed the pooch in peril at her home in Saffron Way, Sittingbourne, and grabbed a hammer to try to free her.

She said: "I tried with the hammer but her head was too close to the brick work and I couldn't do it so I dialled 999. She was frothing at the mouth and sweating. My other dog was just sitting in the kennel watching it all."

Sittingbourne firefighters soon came to Lottie's rescue.

Using a fireman's helmet to shield her eyes they chiselled away at the surrounding bricks.

Maralyn said: "They said were going to remove the wall brick by brick and they were talking about getting a vet in to sedate her at one point but then the block Lottie's head was stuck in broke after they removed the brick above it.

"Once she was freed she jumped up at the firemen then ran off and laid at the top of the stairs. The firefighters were great, I can't thank them enough.

"We were going to knock the wall down ages ago but we never got round to it, we definitely plan to knock it down now."
