The M20 has just been reopened after a lorry fire between junctions eight and nine.

The motorway had earlier been closed in the coastbound direction as firefighters tackled the blaze. One driver was involved.

In a separate incident, the M2 was closed at junction five after a minor crash.

Police were called at just after 7.15am today to a crash on the Londonbound carriageway of the M2 between the Faversham and Sittingbourne junctions.

Two vehicles were involved, a foreign-registered lorry and a van. The van left the motorway, ending up in bushes.

The driver was freed by fire crews, who cut off the top of the van. It is not known at this time if he has suffered any injuries.

The Kent Air Ambulance sent a response car to the scene.

But as emergency crews dealt with that crash, another four-car pile-up happened on the coastbound carriageway.

It's not thought anyone suffered serious injuries in the second crash.

By 9am the Londonbound carriageway was fully opened. Only one lane is still closed on the coastbound carriageway to allow the four vehicles to be recovered - it is said to be opened very soon.

But traffic is static on the A249 Sittingbourne-bound carriageway due to tailbacks from both crashes.

Drivers are advised to avoid the A249 and use alternative routes to Sittingbourne and Faversham.
