An 86-year-old man thought to have been run over by his own car today remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The man was airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped under a vehicle at a Dartford surgery yesterday afternoon.

Kent Police said he was driving a Honda Accord, which hit a parked car at Dartford West Health Centre.

Officers were called to the Tower Road site, near the junction with West Hill, by paramedics at just after 4pm.

The man, from Dartford, was treated at the scene for life-threatening injuries.

An air ambulance landed in nearby Dartford Grammar School for Boys, in West Hill.

The man was airlifted to King's College Hospital, London, where he remains in a critical, but stable, condition.

Witness Joseph Hashim said: "The helicopter arrived and two paramedics from it were quickly taken away in a police car.

"About 15 minutes later, an ambulance returned with the two paramedics, someone was anaesthetised and loaded into the helicopter.

"I was told by one of the flight crew that he was apparently conscious and then the helicopter departed."

Several roads were closed while emergency services were at the scene, but re-opened at about 5.15pm.

Kent Police's Serious Crash Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses to phone PC Claire Russell-Thomas on 01622 798 538.
