A 51-year-old man from Maidstone has died after being found injured at a church.

He was taken to Maidstone Hospital with head injuries after being found at St Peter and Paul's Church, Aylesford, at around 7.30m Friday, then transferred to London where he later died.

The man's next of kin have been told and the coroner has been notified.

Police are treating the death as "unexplained" and have launched an appeal for information.

Det Ch Insp Jon Bumpus said: "The appeal for information is to establish if anyone else was in the area of the churchyard between 6.30pm to 8pm."

He added that police were keen to "help the man's family understand how he came by his injuries".

No further information about the man is available. A post mortem is due to take place later this week.

Any information is urged to contact police on 01732 379217 or Kent Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
