Man dies in fall from flats

A MAN in his 50s has plunged to his death from a block of flats.

He died after falling from what is thought to be the top floor of Wellington Court in Bryant Street, Chatham.

The man has not yet been named by police but is thought to have lived in the 12-storey building which is managed by mhs homes.

One resident, who didn’t wish to be named, said: “I heard some shouting and commotion and looked out of my bedroom window and saw his body on the ground. I went out onto the stairwell and looked over the balcony. It was a horrible scene."

A post mortem examination will be carried out on Monday and an inquest into his death will be opened the following day.

A police spokesman said: “Kent Police are conducting an investigation into the death of a man who fell from Wellington Court at about 4.45pm on Wednesday.

“Details of the man’s identity are not being released until his next of kin have been informed.”

Officers are appealing for information. Witnesses should call Medway Police on 01634 884071.
