Fatal crash at Marden

Police are appealing for witnesses to a crash on the A229 Staplehurst Road, Marden, on Saturday, in which a 56-year-old man died.

A red Mercedes SLK 200 Kompressor was travelling along the road towards Maidstone at 2.16pm when, for unknown reasons, it slowed and drifted to the offside carriageway before coming to rest in vegetation.

The driver, who has not yet been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators believe there may have been other motorists in the area at the time of the collision who may be able to assist with police inquiries. They are particularly interested in speaking to a motorcycle rider travelling towards Staplehurst who close to the Mercedes before the crash. Officers believe this motorist may have witnessed the incident.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kent Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
