A 48-year-old man has been remanded in custody accused of attempting to murder a woman.

Simon Liddell, of Clifton Road, Folkestone, appeared before magistrates in Canterbury today, charged with trying to kill the 47-year-old woman on Friday.

She was taken to hospital with what were described as minor knife injuries after emergency services were called to the Old High Street at about 3.15pm.

Police cars and ambulance crews were at the scene, while the road was cordoned off.

Liddell was remanded in custody to appear again at Canterbury Crown Court.
