Turner Contemporary is one of the biggest regeneration projects
ever undertaken in Thanet - and at £17 million, it's also one of
the most expensive.

But will Margate's new art gallery offer this seaside town the
new economic opportunities it so desperately needs?

Cheap flights to overseas countries have erradicated much of the
tourism trade, while the recent recession and the ongoing expansion
of Westwood Cross have spelled disaster for the town.

But as KentOnline's Martin Jefferies finds out in the third
of a special week-long series of reports, Margate is starting to
turn a corner, with a renewed sense of optimism and a host of new
businesses finding their feet in the Old Town area.
