Fundraisers at mcch raise money with 100-mile bike ride

Fundraisers will complete a gruelling 100-mile bike ride to promote wellbeing for all.

The team will be raising money for mcch - KentOnline, kmfm and KMTV's charity of the year.

mcch, which is based in Maidstone, supports people with learning disabilities, autism and mental health needs.

Staff from the charity have been taking part in the Prudential RideLondon - Surrey since 2014.

This year they hope to raise £5,000, which will be used to fund special experiences for people they support.

These experiences encourage people to try something new or help people do something they’ve always wanted to, but couldn’t afford.

Head of technical services, David Holt, and technical services supervisor, Stuart Hood, are among those who will be completing the challenge.

David, 51, from Maidstone, said: "For me, a key part of the challenge is mental health and wellbeing – and promoting that within my team and the service as a whole.

"When you do something like this, the feeling you get after is second to none.

"Mental health is so important, and getting out on your bike and doing some fitness does go a long way."

David and his team are responsible for looking after all properties managed by mcch, along with building brand new services to meet the changing needs of people the charity supports.

Fundraising manager Emma Cassley said: "Only a small percentage of adults with a learning disability actually have their own tenancy.

"The work that David and his team do gives people their own space, their own front door, their own tenancy, everything is in their name.

"This is so important in supporting people to live independent lives."

Stuart, 50, from Faversham also helps to maintain mcch's properties, overseeing day-to-day repairs.

He said: "Going into the services and seeing how people benefit from the money that goes towards them is a big part for me."

Despite the heat, team members have been trying to get out and train at least twice a week.

David said: "There's a lot of competition within the team to try and beat each other.

"We're really competitive when we get into the saddle, and try and outdo each other's times.

"It's good-humoured fun, without a doubt."
